Steve Porter, Ph.D., P.E
Civil Engineering/Environmental Science



P. Steven Porter is an associate professor of Civil Engineering and a coordinator of the Civil Engineering and Environmental Science programs.  He graduated from Plano High School, Plano, Illinois (home of Plano tackle boxes), in 1971, received B.S.(1976) and M.S. (1981) degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering (1986) from the Colorado State University.  Dr. Porter has worked as an environmental engineer for the Minneapolis/St. Paul wastewater treatment system, 3M Company, and as a private consultant.  Areas of expertise include statistical methods for environmental data, water quality management, and wastewater treatment.  He is a member of The International Environmetrics Society and the American Water Resources Association, and is a registered professional engineer in Idaho.  He has been the principal or co-principal investigator on grants and contracts totaling $1,600,000.
