Why Idaho Falls

University of Idaho Center during Spring

University Place

A Learning Environment Like No Other

The University of Idaho Idaho Falls Center provides programs that are individually designed to meet the educational objectives of the traditional and non-traditional student. We are located near the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), which provides unique research and educational opportunities. Our partnership with Idaho State University (ISU) allows students greater access to courses.

Here are just a few things that set us apart:

The Research

The Academics

  • More than 20 resident faculty offer the individual attention that is possible with a small student to faculty ratio.
  • Seventeen (17) Master's, eleven (11) Ph.D. and three (3) undergraduate majors are available in Idaho Falls.
  • Carefully selected Affiliate faculty with expertise and teaching experience complement the local programs.
  • Students can take courses from University of Idaho (UI) and Idaho State University (ISU).
  • Students can complete full degree programs here or begin in Idaho Falls and transfer to the UI Moscow campus.

The Students

  • Our typical enrollments at University Place include 500 UI and 2000 ISU students.
  • Students are a mix of traditional and non-traditional students.
  • Students are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate or professional development programs.

The Student's Life

  • University Place is a "commuter campus."
  • Our Student Union Building offers the convenience and advantages of a centrally located bookstore, cafe, computer lab, counseling center, Nurse Practitioner, Early Learning Center, student organization meeting rooms and study areas.
  • The Students Services office located in the Student Union Building houses financial aid, academic advisors, admissions and registrar for both ISU and UI.
  • Library services are available on-site. Students have free access to a rich array of research materials.
  • We are located next to Freeman Park (Idaho Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Disc golf course, a bike lane, and a running path) and the Snake River.
  • Each Fall we sponsor the UP 5k Fun Run/Walk with proceeds used for University Place Student Scholarships.
  • Concerts, movies, barbecues and other activities are held throughout the year at no or low-cost for students.

The Setting

  • Our location in Idaho Falls, Idaho is home to 54,000 residents; we are the commercial hub for Eastern Idaho and the surrounding area. Money.com rated Idaho Falls as one of the top ten best places to live.
  • The Idaho Falls Regional Airport is home to five airlines, connecting to Boise, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, and Las Vegas, with non-stop flights.
  • We are close to Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, (2 hr drive) Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve (1 hr drive), and several ski resorts (are within a two hour drive or less: Targhee, Jackson, Kelly Canyon).
  • Our natural surroundings provide a unique blend of the Rocky Mountains, High Desert, and the Snake River plain.

The Samuel H. Bennion Student Union

  • We partner with Idaho State University,
Eastern Idaho Technical College, and Idaho National Laboratory.
  • We are the local connection with the main campus in Moscow. Students can easily work
with faculty and staff from Moscow.
  • Engineering Outreach , Career Planning and Placement, , and the UI library have programs designed to serve students who are located outside Moscow.

The Value

  • Our students can work, play, and earn an undergraduate or graduate degree in eastern Idaho.
  • Students who want to "re-tool" their skills can take courses for professional development.
  • Our tuition, fees, and costs are consistently lower than the average four-year public university.
