Paul Patterson

Paul has been the District IV (Southeastern Idaho) extension agricultural economist since 1984 where his efforts are focused primarily on financial management, marketing and cost of production studies. Paul also works on applied research projects with production-based research and extension faculty. Most projects involve the economic evaluation of alternative crops, crop rotations or alternative production systems or technologies. Recent work has included the economic evaluation of alternative irrigation systems, weed control practices in potatoes, crop rotations for potatoes, and the fumigation of potato fields for disease suppression.
Prior to taking his current position in Idaho Falls, Paul worked as a research associate with the University of Idaho in Moscow evaluating the economics of best management practices for controlling sediment runoff in the Rock Creek drainage near Twin Falls, Idaho.
Paul has both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in agricultural economics from the University of Idaho. A native of Montana, Paul grew up on a farm south of Rupert, Idaho.
Paul's interest outside work includes fly fishing, backpacking and white water rafting. During the winter he focuses on cross-country skiing. Paul has been an avid runner for the past twenty years and a home brewer for the last three.
