Harold S. Blackman, Deputy Assistant Laboratory Director of the Science and Technology Directorate, Idaho National Laboratory, and Interim Director for the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, Idaho National Laboratory.

Harold Blackman is the deputy associate laboratory director of the Science and Technology Directorate and interim director for the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) at the Idaho National Laboratory. He is involved in some of the nation's most pressing energy issues, including the development of America's alternative fuels and energy systems, advanced energy storage, hydrogen economy and transportation systems, closing the nuclear fuel cycle, critical energy infrastructure and water resources, and environmental consequences of energy development and use.

Dr. Blackman is a fellow of the Human Factors Society, a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Psychological Association. His research interests include human reliability analysis, display design and evaluation, mental models for complex human performance, and human error.

In 1997, Dr. Blackman received a NOVA technical excellence award from Lockheed Martin Corp. for his significant contribution in the field of human factors engineering to improve the safety and reliability of aviation and nuclear industry operations.

He has co-authored three books, two of which cover human reliability topics, and a third deals with display design. He serves on the editorial board of two international journals, and serves as adjunct faculty for Idaho State University where he teaches human factors and educational psychology. He also has served on a variety of advisory boards, most recently for Boise State University's College of Engineering and the Yellowstone Business Partnership.

Dr. Blackman earned his doctorate in educational psychology with specialization in quantitative methods; his master's degree in educational psychology; and his bachelor's degree in secondary education with a biological sciences major, all from Arizona State University.
