Nathan Alan Chipman
1949-2005

Nathan Alan Chipman, affliate faculty member in Chemical Engineering, died October 2005 in Idaho Falls. Nate, as he was fondly called, was well known for his enthusiastic support of basketball, football and volleyball. He served as a referee and received the Idaho Of.cial of the Year Award in 1991. Nate was deeply involved with his family and shared with them his love of .shing, camping, teaching, traveling, bicycling and working on cars. His talents in the classroom and in his chosen .eld of chemical engineering were widely acknowledged. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and students.

Fred H. Tingey
1923-2005

Fred H. Tingey, longtime friend of Idaho education and director of the University of Idaho – Idaho Falls Center from 1979-1995, died November 2005. Fred was awarded the President’s Medallion by the University of Idaho in 2000 for his extensive contributions to higher education in eastern Idaho. The State Board of Education and the University of Idaho Foundation honored him in 2002 by naming the of.ce building at University Place the Fred H. Tingey Administration Building.

Fred held a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Washington. His professional expertise was in nuclear safe guards and managing nuclear materials. Fred utilized his education and expertise in his work at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) as it is now known. It was while working at the INL that Fred began to develop the foundational relationships that led to the inception of University Place, a jointly managed center for University of Idaho and Idaho State University. Fred’s leadership, drive, and vision will continue to fuel higher education efforts for future generations. He will be remembered as the catalyst for providing opportunities for higher education in Idaho.
