Outstanding
Affiliate Faculty Award
Louis L. Marsden’s
greatest joy as a teacher is seeing his students accomplish what they
set out to do and at a higher level than they thought that they could.
His students give credit for their deeper understanding to Lou’s
talent as a teacher and his never ending support in the classroom and
during tutoring sessions at the mathematics lab.
Lou started his career in higher
education at Utah State University completing a bachelor’s degree
in 1951. His master’s degree was earned from University of Idaho
in 1961. Lou’s affiliation with UI continued as he began to teach
a variety of mathematics courses from 1961-1996. He considers all of the
courses to be a positive experience for him but particularly counts the
smaller classes as very meaningful because he is able to develop more
personal relationships with the learners. In 1975 Lou also started teaching
math courses for Idaho State University and has shared his engaging style
with students in Idaho Falls and Pocatello. He often comments that he
teaches because he truly enjoys teaching.
The University of Idaho –
Idaho Falls wishes to thank Lou for his impact on students’ lives
and for the time that he generously gives to help them be successful.
