Outstanding Affiliate Faculty Award

   Scott D. Matthews’ journey to the University of Idaho began with a degree in statistics from Oklahoma State University in 1968. Scott used his experience and education to secure a position at NASA’s Johnson Space Center working in reliability and statistics and earth resources data sensor organizations. Seeking a different challenge, Scott and his family moved to Idaho to begin work at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory. His job in the Statistics and Applied Engineering and Development areas entailed software project management, software engineering, design and testing for object-oriented application, and quality assurance. He is a member of the Association of Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers Technical Council on Software Engineering.

Seeing a need for further education, Scott earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Idaho in 1989. While pursuing his advanced degree, Scott continued to teach classes in the computer science department in Idaho Falls eventually becoming the program coordinator and advisor for the computer science students in Idaho Falls. Scott is now employed by Los Alamos National Engineering Laboratory.
